Dive #145: Shelly Beach

Place:Shelly Beach Buddy:Amir
Weather:Cool and clear Type:Shore
Max. depth (m):7.3 Visibility (m):10
Time down:19:47 Dive time (mins):55
Average depth (m):4.9 Water temp. (C):20.0

Notes: First dive ever with DOUTs, organised by Marcus. It was a bit chilly so some people pulled out. In the end there were four: Marcus, Bobby, Amir (sp.?) and myself. We had a very nice long and shallow night dive: cuttlefish, octopuses, pipefish, scorpion fish and many others. Lovely warm water fizzing with tiny fish hopping, breaking the surface and hitting our faces as we entered.

Equipment: I tried out my new Apeks XTX200 reg and HOG Morph 1000 dive light. All went well. The dive light was really too bright so I had it on the lowest setting most of the time. The lowest setting is comparable to my Barbolight (I compared the two; about 200 lumens) but the HOG light is a bit cooler. I used my improvised Goodman handle and belt clip. Both were ok but I’d prefer a hard handle. I still fumble a lot trying to clip my SPG back onto my lower left D-ring after checking air.

Accumulated time underwater: 4 days, 1 hour and 19 minutes.
